Towards Net Zero Emissions
We’re improving our property portfolio to better meet our current and future science needs, while reducing our overall footprint. In the past year we’ve consolidated eleven sites in Victoria, ACT, Queensland and NSW, bringing people across into refurbished or new facilities at existing sites. The benefits for our people are improved site vibrancy and opportunities for collaboration. We've reduced our property footprint by around 50,000 m2, cutting our carbon emissions by 2.6 kt CO2, and bringing us closer to our 2030 net zero emissions target.
Towards Net Zero Emissions
It started with a 300 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Werribee in 2017 and in June 2020 we completed installation of 13,000 PV panels at ten CSIRO sites, generating 5.03 MW of renewable energy (or 6.7 gigawatt hours) each year. That’s enough to power around 900 homes and offset 5900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions each year.
